Dec. '22 Project Status Update: Perseverance and Visitation

In this, the last month of 2022, Vera Aqua Vera Vita continued to persevere in working with the governing bodies in the Piura Regional Government (GRP) to secure final approval and cost estimates for Las Mercedes KM11’s clean water solution.

Last month, the planning and engineering team identified the best solution to obtain the Environmental Impact Report. Now, our volunteers on the ground in Piura are collecting the data to complete the full Environmental Impact Report. This report will be provided to the Ministry of Transport (MTC) as part of the Right of Way (ROW) application to secure project approval to pass the proposed project pipeline under the Pan-American highway.

Efforts to secure water rights are now nearly complete as we have recently finished addressing the National Water Authority’s (ANA) feedback on our initial water rights request application.

As you may remember from last month, the Piura Regional Government (GRP) provided a final draft cost estimate for the project. Our Planning and Engineering team has replied back to them with proposed revisions to that cost estimate, and now, we are working with the GRP to solidify the most accurate estimate.

Additionally this past month, Ricardo Arbulu Guerra, VAVV’s Peru Projects and Programs Director, got the chance to travel to his native homeland of Peru. The purpose of his trip was threefold: to visit the communities we’re serving, to visit with the communities we hope to serve in the future, and to strengthen our partnerships and relationships with collaborations on the ground in Piura.

Peruvian Team stands in front of stagnant water the community uses to drink.

The trip was a huge success and Ricardo hopes to take many more trips like this in the future!

In other news, our boots on the ground in Monte Castillo are 86% complete with the community’s Post-Project Impact Survey. This data will give us real facts behind the impact of clean water for the 7,000+ people who’ve had an operational clean water system for three years now! We hope to have the completed survey data very soon in order to compile a comprehensive report of the survey findings.

This year we truly made so much progress towards getting clean water to 1,500 people in dire need. The Planning and Engineering team has been meeting weekly to advance all areas of both of our active projects. Once we complete Las Mercedes KM11’s clean water system and provide clean water to their 1,000+ residents, we can turn our energy to Cerro de Leones!

Thank you for your support throughout the year of 2022! We know that with your help, 2023 will see the construction and commencement of operations of multiple life-saving clean water and sanitation solutions providing access to 1,500+ people in need!

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
