Oct '22 Project Status Update: Perseverance for Final Approval

This October, the Vera Aqua Vera Vita Planning and Engineering team has been persevering in coordination with authorities in Piura, Peru to secure final approval for water rights, power supply, and use of the Pan-American highway Right of Way (ROW) for the waterline crossing for Las Mercedes KM11’s clean water project.

This past week, they received exciting news that the Piura Regional Government (GRP) has provided preliminary approval for the entire construction project, along with encouraging feedback! Next, the GRP hopes to provide the comprehensive construction cost estimate by the second week of November.

We also got feedback for our Water Rights Request from the Local Water Authority (ALA) and we had several meetings with them to work through their comments. They’re going to be sending an ALA engineer to conduct additional field measurements on the water source we hope to use in early November. VAVV hopes that once these additional measurements are conducted, we can receive final approval for our Water Rights Request.

Additionally, the team has sent revised documents to the Registry Office in Piura (SUNARP) in the hopes of obtaining property ownership information. Once we have this information, we can complete the application to the power grid authority in Piura (ENOSAA) for them to supply power poles for the project’s pumps.

The team also received multiple quotes to produce the Environmental Impact Report for the entire project. This report will be an integral part of our approval for use of ROW from the Ministry of Transportation (MTC) to install the proposed pipeline in an underpass below the Pan-American highway.

The Planning and Engineering team hopes that next month will hold momentous project advancement, both in receiving final approval from the Piura Regional Government and in all other logistical aspects. In the meantime, Vera Aqua Vera Vita perseveres!

Founder Jacob Niemeier stated in regards to this past month’s progress,

“Despite the excessive delays we are experiencing in securing the necessary permits and authorizations we need to commence construction, we continue to press onward with much perseverance because we have hope and confidence that our persistent efforts will yield the blessing of sustainable, clean water for the 1,000+ people in the community of Las Mercedes KM11. Honestly, if we weren't working to bring clean water to this community, then who would? The answer is no one, which is why despite the delays we are facing, we are reminded that it will all be worth it in the end!"
